What a weekend that was. Yet another installment of the car crash that is West Ham United and the BS show!
Only at West Ham could we sack our manager 7 days after their last losing fixture! What was the point? Why wait a week? Surely his time was up after the defeat to Palace the previous Saturday. So why not sack him on the Monday? Why embarrass him by letting him do a press conference about the Everton game? Then sack him the next morning! The BS show!
It wouldn’t surprise me if it was yet another cost saving exercise. They probably saved on his wages, assuming he’s on a better wage than Potter. They approach signing players in transfer windows similarly. They leave it as late as possible to save on wages. The BS show!
Maybe it’s my inexperience of running a Premier League football club. Nevertheless, I would have thought it better to give the new manager the week to prepare for Everton. This seems more effective than just giving them just 2 days. The BS show!
Anyway, enough of the BS show. We all know they haven’t a clue about running a Premier League football club either!
Nuno Espírito Santo
We now have a new manager in Nuno Espírito Santo or SuperNES as I hope to be calling him! (Only people of a certain vintage will understand that reference no doubt)
As with any new appointment, I had to check out my old trusty reference point of Wikipedia. I wanted to find out some stats on him. And to be honest I was a bit taken aback by his win percentage ratio. I wasn’t expecting it to be so high. In 536 games he has 258 wins, a 48.13% ratio. A ratio that would have him in pole position in our overall managers table.
Although his last appointment win ratio wasn’t the greatest at 38.36% but he did take Forest into the Europa League. And what would we not give to relive those European trips and nights again!
The only concern I have is his tendency not to stay long at a club. This is apart from Wolves. But is that more the case of today’s modern football and the sacking of managers? After all, we are now into our 20th manager in our history. And I’ve seen 16 of them in my time supporting the Hammers. I’m not that old either. Ok, so I did make a 90’s reference to SuperNES but I like to think of myself as not old and I’m sticking by it!
Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium
Tonight, we face Everton in their new stadium. I have spoken to numerous Everton fans. I’ve asked them about leaving Goodison Park for Hill Dickinson Stadium, they have all said the same thing. That they were looking forward to it. That Goodison was a tired old stadium, and they felt a new modern football stadium was what they needed. How we wished we could have had that! The BS show! (Sorry, I know I said enough of that, earlier in the blog).
Do you think we will get the new manager bounce tonight? I was still waiting for Potters 25 games in! But I do get some optimism with Nuno. At 9/2 we are maybe worth a few pounds tonight. But then again, I don’t want to be doubly depressed should we not win, and I’ve also lost money, so I’ll just leave it.
If we do get off to a good start under Nuno, and he maintains that 48% win ratio, then hopefully we will be calling him SuperNES. Time will tell!
