Jesse Lingard – The Saga Continues!

It’s hard to believe it’s been over 2 years since I last wrote a blog about the mighty Hammers, but it’s been a busy few years for me. In that time, we have staved off relegation, just missed out on Champions League by 2pts, had a European tour and qualified for Europe for the second season in a row.

Now we have another European Tour to look forward to, we desperately need to expand our squad. We saw how it affected us last year. Players can’t be expected to play in every game of every competition. I understand where Moyes is coming from in putting out strong starting XI in a bid to win every match. But in my opinion, it cost us. Players should have been rested before the Frankfurt games. Although judging from last night’s game, I’m not sure how we would have fared against Rangers with a full season behind us if we played like that in pre-season!

The worst thing about last night was seeing Aguerd limp off. It didn’t look too good but hopefully it’s not serious. Again, it only emphasises our need to strengthen the squad. Although Ogbonna being back is like a new signing.

I’d like to see us get Broja. He looked good anytime I saw him play last season for Southampton. He’s not a prolific striker but I think he would fit in well with our attacked midfield. We have an abundance of talent there and get a fair bit of goals from them:

So, is it a position where we really need to strengthen with Lingard?

OK, he was really good when he came to us on loan the last time but that was a bid to save his career. He then decided to stay with Man U and warm their bench. He stated he wanted to play with his hero Ronaldo. He didn’t get much gametime with him so why didn’t he join us in January?

Why didn’t he then sign on the dotted line when his contract expired at the end of June? We have always maintained we were interested, and I would doubt we hadn’t contacted his representatives in that time.

We have also had his dicky TikTok videos teasing us. The first one where he comes out of his house and makes out he has made a decision. Then proceeds to walk to his choice of two cars – a flashy one (Saudi Arabia or wherever he was linked to for bucket loads of cash) or a clapped-out Hyundai. Basically, calling us an old banged up club??

Then we had the Chicken Run kebab house post. Again, signalling he was on his way to our beloved club. But last night and today he appears to be on his way to Forest, probably all based on his weekly wage.

Excuse me if I don’t get why he would want to go to a team that will likely be fighting relegation over a team full of internationals who will be playing in Europe. That level of football could probably kick start his career for the second time and push him into the England squad yet again.

Surely Jesse has made enough money out of Man U to not need the extra £30k per week over what we are reportedly going to pay him.

Call me old fashioned and maybe I am just showing my age but the whole point of playing football is to be able to look back on a career and feel you have contributed in some way.

Will Jesse do that if he chooses Forest over us? I don’t think so. I think he is sticking his two fingers up at us. And not in his trademark way!
