Wolves v West Ham Review

‘Like my dreams they fade and die’

Despite being semi-optimistic before the game (I said I’d take a draw), West Ham completely rip the heart out of us yet again. How many times in our lives have we got hopeful off the back of a good result only to lose the next game?

PRE-GAME

A Wednesday night 7:30pm kick-off is strange. I had only just finished off my dinner when I had to get the laptop up and running, hack into my bosses Amazon account and get the game on.

I had a mess about with the stats and highlights tab etc. and have to say I was impressed with the Amazon setup.

THE GAME

The game was pretty even throughout the opening 15-20mins although Traore seemed to be causing problems down the right-hand side.

In the 23rd minute Dendoncker scored Again we concede from a set piece. Is there any chance we could actually work on defending set pieces in training? How many have we conceded from now? This time it was a corner. Dendoncker managed to get away from Fredericks and stab the ball past Martin.

West Ham had a great chance in the 32nd minute though when Fornals had a decent shot which looked destined for the net only for Patricio to get a fingertip touch on it to push it to safety.

In the second half Wolves seemed to have the better chances. Martin making himself big to deny Jonny after a great cross from Jimenez on the right.

Snodgrass then had the best chance of the night for West Ham in the 61st minute when a fantastic ball by Fornals left him in acres of space in a one to one with the goalkeeper but the Scot failed to get it fully under control with the advancing Patricio doing enough.

Another set piece, another chance. This time Moutinho whips in a corner, Jimenez with a flick on and the ball more or less hits Saiss and goes narrowly wide. I don’t think anyone really knew too much about it to be honest.

Wolves had another chance in the 73rd minute, the powerful Traore picked up the ball on the counter attack, ran at our defence and laid off the ball to Jimenez who’s shot was saved by Martin.

Surprise surprise, a set piece (free kick this time) and Wolves nearly go two up. Moutinho whips it in to meet the head of Saiss who just fails to direct it goalward, it wasn’t too far away though.

West Ham then started to put a bit of pressure on. There was definitely another goal in the game.

Unfortunately, it came in the 86th minute for Wolves. Jonny getting on the ball ahead of  Balbuena and runs direct before laying it off, under pressure from Rice, to Neto who tees it up for Cutrone, who places it into the bottom left corner.

2-0 Game Over!

OVERVIEW

It’s been a while since I was last in as such a bad mood as I was at the end of this game. It is just so frustrating!

I’d love to see what exactly is going on in training. We don’t look fit. We are so slow in attack. Our set piece defending is awful. I could go on and on.

It’s a bad state of affairs when we are signing players at £40million + and yet we still rely so heavily on a player who cost around £7 million from Nottm Forest!

Don’t get me wrong Antonio was an absolute steal at that price and we are lost without him, but surely the likes of Anderson and Haller should be contributing more. Either with goals or assists. Even just giving us something.

I still believe we are not playing to our strengths. Our formation is completely wrong. Every West Ham fan can see it so why is our manager not?

Manuel you really are on your last legs. I think you got lucky against Chelsea and now Mondays game v Arsenal is a must win game.

Otherwise it must be Adios!
