Tonight, sees the Second-Round draw of the Carabao Cup taking place at Salford City’s Peninsula Stadium or Moor Lane as it is probably better known. Previous draws have taken place in Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City and a Morrisons supermarket so Moor Lane is possibly an upgrade!
The draw is made in Northern and Southern sections with West Ham being assigned ball number 9.
Traditionally for me the League Cup allows me to travel over for matches as I can combine a day of ‘work’ with a trip to a game. The joys of working for a company whose main workload appears to be in the capital city.
Previous years I have attended Everton in the 2-1 quarter final loss, Carlton Cole scoring the only hammers goal, which I missed because we arrived late! Leon Osman and Yakubu scoring the Everton goals.
The following year I was able to attend the Macclesfield 2nd round match in which we came from 1-0 down to win 4-1 after extra time. The goals coming from Bowyer, Carlton Cole, Zavon Hines and Kyle Reid.
I also had the pleasure of attending the first game v Chelsea at the London Stadium which co-incidentally was also my first game at the new stadium. West Ham ran out victorious, winning 2-1 with goals from Kouyate and Fernandes. Chelsea scoring a late consolation through Cahill. The atmosphere was electric despite the negativity surrounding a few disturbances with the away end.
My last game attended in the League Cup was the trip to Wembley in October 2017. The game where we looked dead and buried being 2-0 down at half time, goals from Sissoko and Alli. But the boys had different ideas. Two goals from Ayew and a winner by Ogbonna ensured we were having a party, when Tottenham f**ked it up, AGAIN! Great Day / Night!
So, who will I be hoping for tonight? It’s a difficult one for me. I want to get over to a match as soon as possible but when I do, I want it to be against decent opposition. I also want to see us put in a decent cup run, so an ‘easier’ opponent would suit. One thing is for certain if ball number 26 is drawn against us and Millwall overcome West Brom, I’ll be booking flights pronto!
